Philippians 3:8

Philippians 3:8
Indeed I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my lord for his sake I have suffered the loss of all things   And count them as rubbish that I may gain Christ.

The language of loss and gain alluded to the crucified messiah who had been a loss but is now the ultimate gain.  Matthew 16: 25-26 for who ever saves his life will lose it but who ever losses his life for my sake will find for what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul. Loss comes in many forms. Loss of life, loss of a career, loss of worldly items. But true loss is a life without Christ. When a soul is lost it will find pleasure in worldly things, worldly actions, worldly affairs. We will seek a self righteous lifestyle filling out hearts and minds with the sin of the world. In the news media we see separation of church and state, individualist wanting to rewrite scripture to fit a changing time. To gain power to gain rights and gain self righteousness. But Jesus says follow me and I’ll give you an abundant life. When we release our rights to the lord, when we release the power of pride to the lord, and when we release the self righteousness to the lord we gain the the ultimate salvation of  Christ who died for our sins that we fall towards. We ultimately sacrifice our life’s for what has been given to us. Our loss is his gain our gain is eternal life.
