Your life as citizens should be consistent with the good news about the messiah. The Christians of Philippe are living in a hotbed of Roman patriotism but they are to be shaped by Jesus bring persecution for their lord. But this is not to bring fear because suffering for being associated with Jesus is living out what Jesus did for us. The messiah chose not to exploit his self advantage he became human he became a servant and ultimately  humiliated by the crucifixion on the cross. Jesus is the messiah is lord to the glory of god the father Paul is quoting from Isaiah 45:23 where all creation comes to recognize the god of Israel as lord. Verse 2:16 life and light are related when we hold forth the word of life we are lights in the world. Paul rejoices when he hears that the Philippians believers are manifesting their faith in good works. These believers were very close to the heart of Paul because they were his converts  .now we are going to see examples of the mind of Paul the mind of Timothy and the mind of epaphroditus we come into Timothy  Timothy is a servant of god caring for others more than his own self , and epaphroditus who the Philippians sent with gifts he risked his life to server Paul almost dying to serve Paul these are the people are living breathing examples of the story of Jesus worthy of teaching others.
